The Midnight Heist of Maplewood Manor

Edna’s Last Heist

Edna sat in her wheelchair, staring at the empty space where her pension used to be. “Gone?” she whispered.

The nursing home director smirked, polishing his brand-new red sports car. “Budget cuts,” he said with a shrug.

Edna wasn’t buying it. And neither was her bingo crew.

There was Martha, the former baker, whose banana pudding was legendary. Then there was Lou, a one-legged veteran who still had a sharp mind and a sharper tongue. And finally, Gerald, the tech whiz who could crack a password faster than the nurses could refill his applesauce.

And, of course, Duke—the parrot who repeated everything, even things he shouldn’t.

“We’re getting your money back,” Martha declared, stirring a bowl of pudding.

Gerald grinned. “We just need a plan.”

The Great Midnight Heist

First, Duke the parrot learned the alarm codes by listening to the staff. “Beep beep boop!” he squawked, over and over.

Next, Martha smuggled the master keys into the director’s office—hidden inside a fresh batch of banana pudding. Nobody ever turned down her dessert.

Then, at midnight, the crew got to work.

Lou squeezed through the air vents, grumbling the whole time. His walker got stuck halfway. “Little help here?” he whispered.

Gerald hacked the safe with his old laptop, fingers flying over the keys. “Almost there…”

The door clicked open.

Inside, stacks of cash gleamed under the dim light.

Martha gasped. “He took everyone’s money.”

Gerald nodded. “Time to teach him a lesson.”

The Perfect Payback

Instead of taking the cash, they replaced it—with IOU marbles. Each one had a note inside: Justice is served.

By morning, the director stormed into his office.

He opened the safe.

Marbles spilled onto the floor.

The bingo crew watched from the hallway as his face turned redder than his car. He quit the same day.

With the stolen pension returned, Edna did the first thing on her list—buy everyone hearing aids.

“Now we can finally hear the bingo numbers,” Lou joked.

Duke flapped his wings, squawking his new favorite word.

“JUSTICE!”

And the whole nursing home cheered.
