Lila the narwhal drifted behind towering icebergs, her heart thumping like a drum. She loved the way the waves hummed, but she was too shy to add her own song.
"Why don’t you sing, Lila?" asked Finley the seal.
Lila ducked lower. "What if my voice sounds silly?"
A walrus chuckled nearby. "Like seashells crunching?" he teased, his whiskers twitching.
Lila’s cheeks burned, and she sank deeper into the icy water. Maybe it was better to stay quiet.
Then, one moonlit night, a storm rolled in, fierce and wild. The waves crashed like giant hands, tossing the sea creatures in every direction.
Lila’s friends tried to swim to safety, but strong currents pulled them into a twisting coral maze. The water darkened, trapping them in shadows.
"We need light!" Finley cried, his voice barely reaching through the howling wind.
Lila’s horn tingled, a strange warmth spreading through her. A melody bubbled up inside her chest. She couldn’t hold it back anymore.
She took a deep breath and sang.
Her voice rose and swirled, bursting into glowing bubbles. They floated through the water, lighting a shimmering path through the jagged rocks.
"Follow my song!" Lila trumpeted, her heart pounding.
One by one, her friends swam toward the light, their fear melting away. Even the storm seemed to hush, enchanted by her tune.
When they finally reached safety, Olive the octopus twirled in joy, her tentacles swishing. "You’re a hero!" she gasped, ink-blushing with excitement.
Lila blinked in surprise. A hero?
She looked out at the ocean, where the waves still rippled with the last notes of her song. Her shyness melted like snowflakes on waves.
Now, every storm ends with her lullabies, and the Arctic sways to the music of her brave heart.
